As we look back on 2025, we are filled with gratitude and pride for the tremendous progress made toward opening the doors of the new Wags & Whiskers J. Davidson Adoption Center. This year has been defined by hard work, generosity, and an unwavering belief in our mission to provide a safe and loving haven for animals in need. Thanks to the dedication of our board members, volunteers, and community partners, we are closer than ever to making this shelter a reality.

2025 Building Project Highlights

The past year brought major milestones, including essential infrastructure and building improvements that bring us one step closer to welcoming animals into our care:

•  Engineered in-ground septic system installed — a vital component for long-term operations.

•  New water well drilled and fully functioning, ensuring a reliable, independent water source for the shelter.

•  FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Panels) installed on walls in the dog areas for durability, easy cleaning, and improved sanitation.

•  Epoxy flooring installed in all dog areas, providing a long-lasting, safe, and sanitary surface.

•  Interior walls painted by dedicated volunteers, transforming the building into a warm and welcoming environment.

•  Volunteers tiled the bathroom, completing a major finishing step

•  A generous plumber donated his services, and will be installing and providing all bathroom and utility fixtures

•  LVP flooring installed, another major step toward completing the interior.

•  18 interior doors delivered, soon to be painted and installed by our hardworking team.

•  A generous electrician donating his time to complete interior and exterior lighting—an incredible gift that brightens every room in more ways than one.

 

In the Community:

​

• Low-cost vaccination/microchip clinic at our annual Woofstock event in partnership with Hometown Vet – Jonesburg – 47 dogs and 17 cats were vaccinated and chipped!

• Board members attended two animal welfare conferences and Wags & Whiskers joined numerous community coalitions.

• Wags & Whiskers donates dog and cat food and other pet-related items to the Wright City Food Pantry

Each of these accomplishments represents countless hours of planning, labor, coordination, and community support. Wags & Whiskers board members and volunteers have truly gone above and beyond in 2025!

As we enter the final stages of construction and preparation, we are asking our community to stand with us once more. To officially open the shelter, we urgently need:

• Supporters to spread the word and help build momentum as we prepare to launch.

Every hour volunteered and every dollar donated brings us closer to providing a safe haven for animals who desperately need it.
